What kind of alternative fuel vehicle should I get?

Alternative Fuel Vehicles

I’m looking into biodiesel, hybrid, natural gas or anything else. I don’t think electric will work for me since I live in an apartment. I’m leaning towards a VW Jetta TDI that is 2001 or older. Anyone have any input on tne VW TDIs? Anyone drive the Honda natural gas Civic? Are there better options to reduce my carbon footprint? I’ve heard the hybrid batteries break frequently and cost thousands to replace. True? Or is this mosly in the older versions of hybrids? Thanks!

well, if you are worried with your carbon footprint, just spend money, according to gore that’s the solution.

j/k anyway VW is the worst car company on the planet, as far as reliability and dependability and cost effectiveness. bio diesel is one of those things that a bunch of newbies talk about. when i say newbie i don’t mean they are young or dumb, just that they have NO IDEA how a diesel works, veggie fuel is worse, it has much less energy than petroleum diesel fuels… AND!!! it is NOT REGULATED like gasoline or diesel, aka it damages engines.

i wish all these people who are concerned with the carbon footprint would pull their heads out of their respective holes and realize that these stupid extremes will hurt more than help. if you went out and bought a diesel, ran it on bio, seized the engine… how much worse off is the planet now that all the energy used to cast the iron has to be burned again to make more.

Check out Willie Nelsons Spiel about Bio-Diesel….and the Jetta TDI is one of the best diesel vehicles produced…(just another opinion based on fact)

The NIMH batteries used in most hybrids are very reliable, and can go for 100,000 miles or more (don’t let the fearmongers get to you.)

It’s a shame about the apartment situation, as I love to evangelize about electric cars. Is there any way you could hang a cord out the window, or bribe somebody for a parking space near an outlet? Maybe you could do like I do, and charge the EV mostly at work? Here’s a link to a page about cheap EVs (as little as $5000):

david you have no clue extensive tests have been run on running veggy oil and guess what… it runs just as good as diesel, will not harm the engine, runs cleaner, and can be had for free from local resturants, just needs filtered.

natural gas is too expensive, there is an article floting around somewhere how the prius uses nickle in their batteries which is mined in canada thus actually harming the enviroment. go with the v dub diesel and convert it to veggie oil.

Let’s start a dialogue discussing the integrity of the Hybrid and Alternative Fuel Autombile marketplace in the U.S.A. In particular, I am interested in hearing stories from others who might share a similar sentiment with me with regard to AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR COMPANY’s fraudulent marketing practices of the company’s CIVIC HYBRID CVT and other Electric and Alternative Fuel Vehicles.
